Who is the ginger gm?
My name is Ray Fisher(he/they), and I am the Ginger Game Master. For 25 years, I have entrenched myself in the hobby of Tabletop Roleplaying Games (TTRPGs).My Philosophy:
Games are for everyone - young and old, queer and straight, silly and serious. Through engaging in the oldest of human traditions - storytelling - in a safe, controlled environment, we can craft our own legends while building empathy and creating community. Background:
I am a proud nerd who grew up in the backwaters of Northern Ontario, Canada. We had three channels on TV (five if we could adjust the bunny ears just right) and three games for our old Nintendo Entertainment System. In the summer, my little brother and I spent a lot of time out in the countryside, going on adventures - playing in the woods, climbing trees and, on more than one occasion, hiding from bears. When winter came around, we were forced to huddle up inside on many blustery days thanks to the lake effect cold that came in off Lake Huron only 5km away. Luckily, a nearby friend taught me how to play Dungeons and Dragons. I quickly realized that it was an extension of the stories we told and games of pretend we played on our forest adventures, and took to it easily. The winters didn't seem so bad when you could go on any adventure you could imagine!Since I was barely 14, I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons in its various forms, but branched out early to other game systems -G.U.R.P.S., Vampire, and SLA Industries. I learned that while I enjoy D&D, I prefer to play it than run it. So, I GM a wide variety of games to help introduce the TTRPG-Curious folks and veterans alike to the other options that exist. What Makes My Table Different:
I take being a GM seriously, but not so much so that I forget to have fun too! I am not the type of GM that spends weeks and months crafting every single particular of a given game - I have learned that if you expect your players to Zig, they will amost certainly Zag.
Instead, I create scenarios and situations - think of it like a playground - there is a huge selection of apparatus to climb on and play with, but not everyone wants to play with the same object. My goal is to find the thing that attracts the most attention and make that important.
Together, we will craft worlds players care deeply enough about that losing something hurts, and saving the day feels like a real accomplishment!
